Autosound positive earth converter

CODE: CA002

Price: £59.00

This positive earth converter allows use of modern negative earth radios in positive earth vehicles. The positive earth converter will work with a negative supply from 6 to 15 volts. This is the specified operating range.

The positive earth converter will provide a constant supply of up to 4A. It is thermally protected and has over current protection. Drawing 4A for more than 28 seconds will cause the unit to shut down. This allows large peaks of 10A to be accommodated for short periods of time – e.g when there are loud passages of music without tripping the converter.

Reverse polarity & overvoltage protection is included on the converter on both output and input circuits, this being 15V maximum.

NOT RECOMMENDED FOR power operated door locks, boot release motors, air conditioned clutches, fans, blowers, or other electromechanical devices.

OBSERVE POLARITY AND DISCONNECT BATTERY BEFORE BEGINNING INSTALLATION

For installation there are three connection wires.

BLUE : Supply from a fuse (5A) ignition feed. This is a switched feed as the unit draws a nominal standby current of 10mA which will flatten the battery over a period of weeks. However the self discharge on the battery is likely to be greater than this and will flatten the battery before the unit does – in any case it’s still good installation practice.

GREEN:  This is the earth to the vehicle chassis. This is also the negative feed to the radio (which is now earth as far as the radio cares).

RED: This is the positive feed to the radio. It does not need to be fused if the radio has a fuse on its rear.

It is quite normal for the converter to run warm.

There are two captive mounting bolts which are fitted to the rear of the converter. These are held in position by two M3 Nyloc nuts. There are also two standard M3 nuts supplied and these are used to mount the converter onto a panel or dashboard back.

DO NOT REMOVE THE NYLOC NUTS ON THE REAR OF THE CONVERTER AS THIS WILL CAUSE THE RETAINING BOLTS TO COME LOOSE AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO TIGHTEN THEM AGAIN.

Do not open the converter as there are no user serviceable parts inside. Please return for service or repair.
